Stanford Libraries are (not) hiring

Update (4/27/09): Stanford Libraries are hiring again.

Update (1/21/08):  Hiring freeze still in effect.  All of the job searches below are still suspended.

UPDATE (12/11/08):  Like many other universities, Stanford has a hiring freeze going on right now;  so all of these job searches are currently suspended.  Sorry.
The Stanford Libraries have several great job openings right now. Just go to the Stanford Jobs site, and select Libraries under Job Category.

I’m biased of course, but the best job on the list is the Head of Reference job:

Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources (SULAIR) seeks an innovative and dynamic individual, who is passionate about supporting the research and teaching missions of a major university, to serve as Head of Reference at Stanford’s main library. We seek an individual with enthusiasm, creativity, and intelligence to direct the continued reinvigoration and reinvention of reference services at Green Library.

There are also openings for a Government Documents Librarian, 2 Social Science Librarians, an Engineering Librarian, an Earth Sciences Librarian, some cataloging/metadata jobs, and a few others.

It is a great place to work, and these are terrific opportunities for the right people … especially the Head of Reference job.

Although I have a software background, I’d like to apply for an entry level position in one of the Stanford libraries. I guess the hiring freeze may continue indefinitely given the current economic condition.

There are no library job posts at the following as of right now, but some other job posts can be found by choosing All in the Category field.
