We had our annual Library Open House today, with over 30 libraries and library services represented. Lots of tables had all kinds of cool give-aways — notebooks, pens, post-it pads, t-shirts, tatoos, and even some very cute little mini staplers.
The most popular give-away of the day??
We had extra copies of the books nominated for our William Saroyan International Prize for Writing, so we placed book trucks all around the event with “Free Books” signs on them. There was a constant crowd around the book trucks all day, and every time I moved a truck to restock it, students followed like a scene from the Pied Piper.
Yep — turns out undergraduate students really like books. Although I’m not surprised, I’m glad we have the pictures (and empty book trucks) to prove it.
