Let’s call it a hybrary

Our libraries are going to be hybrid organizations, serving up both print and electronic resources for a long, long time. I know some people want to leap ahead and adopt the term “cybrary”, but we won’t be fully electronic for a long time (if ever). Today’s libraries, and the libraries of the foreseeable future, are really “hybraries”.

Thanks for the links and comments. Looks like you are doing some very cool things to integrate physical and virtual collections and services.

    Hi Chris,

just found your proposal for calling future libraries “hybraries”.
That’s exactly what we do here in the McLuhan Documentation Center
at the ISNM (affiliated institute of the University of Luebeck, Germany):
    See also http://www.andreas-schrader.de/research-hybrary.html

Re-establish and Re-inforce physical libraries with new media interfaces
to support hybrid information access, that’s what we want to achieve.
